Jazz Tuesdays

About Jazz Tuesday

Jazz Tuesdays at Moriarty’s Pub is a vibrant weekly music series that has become a staple in the local jazz scene. Hosted by Jeff Shoup, a respected drummer and music educator, the event is a testament to his passion for the genre and his commitment to to nurturing jazz culture in the region, providing a platform for both established and emerging jazz talents.

Jazz Tuesdays features a rotating cast of house band members, and frequently features visiting guest musicians. The band plays two sets beginning at 7 and wrapping up by 10. The first set typically involves the band playing through a pre-arranged setlist, showcasing a range of jazz standards and contemporary pieces.

The second set, typically starting around 8:30, is more interactive and improvisational, with Jeff inviting musicians in the audience on stage to play, leading to lively jam sessions. This participation not only adds an exciting unpredictability to the night but also fosters a sense of community and inclusiveness. It’s a time when the boundaries between performers and audience blur, creating a shared experience that is engaging and memorable.
