As the chill of winter wraps around Lansing, The Poetry Room invites you to a night where melancholy and the solace of solitude take center stage. “Empty,” a unique open mic event, beckons those who’ve danced with sadness, loneliness, or felt the hollowness of being, offering a stage to voice the unspoken. Hosted at the intimate and inviting Robin Theatre, this gathering is more than just an event; it’s a collective embrace of sad boy winter.
Under the optional theme of “Sad ish,” attendees are encouraged to share pieces that resonate with the quieter, more reflective tones of our lives. Whether it’s a poem that’s been your companion in solitude, a story that walks through the shadows, or a song that sings to the echo of emptiness, “Empty” is your canvas.
Doors open at 7pm, with the event officially starting at 7:30pm. There’s no need to register beforehand — simply show up with your heart on your sleeve and your words ready to spill. Participation is on a first-come, first-serve basis, offering 21 spots for performers to share their interpretation of sadness, emptiness, or simply the depth of winter’s introspective embrace.
