Sequoia Snyder, also known as REDWOOD, is a dynamic jazz artist making waves in the contemporary music scene. Born in Washington D.C. and having spent part of her childhood in Fort Myers, Florida, REDWOOD was influenced by a rich tapestry of genres including gospel, R&B, hip-hop, funk, soul, and pop. Her debut work, “SEMPERVIRENS,” released in conjunction with her 20th birthday, showcases her talents as a pianist and producer, offering a six-track EP that explores the themes of growth and self-discovery through a blend of jazz and other Black music genres with exceptional individuality and sophistication.
Currently completing her graduate studies at Michigan State University’s Jazz Studies program, REDWOOD has been under the tutelage of jazz legends like Rodney Whitaker and Dee Dee Bridgewater and considers Jason Moran, a boundary-pushing artist, as a mentor. At just 24 years old, she has already shared the stage with renowned musicians such as Kenny Barron, Cory Henry, and the popular R&B band The Internet, signaling her rising status in the jazz and broader music community.
