Marquette native Jeremy Porter began his musical journey as afounding member of The Regulars, one of the UP’s pioneering punk bands. This early foray into music set the stage for a prolific career that would see him moving to the Detroit area in 1988 and becoming a central figure in its vibrant music scene.
Over the years, Jeremy has been involved in a variety of musical projects, showcasing his versatility and passion for rock and roll. He has played significant roles in bands such as Chutes and Ladders, SlugBug, Clashback, Fidrych, and The OffRamps, each contributing to his growing reputation as a talented musician and performer.
In 2009, Jeremy embarked on a solo career with the release of “Party of One,” an album that allowed him to explore personal themes and showcase his songwriting and musical skills. The following year marked the formation of Jeremy Porter and The Tucos, a band that has since released four LP/CDs, a live EP, several singles, and a comprehensive three-CD retrospective collection spanning ten years. The Tucos have been active on the touring circuit, performing across the US and Canada, and even extending their reach to the UK in 2018. Jeremy’s dedication to live performance is evident, as he often supplements the Tucos’ busy schedule with solo shows, drawing from a rich catalog of music spanning his entire career.
Beyond his work with bands, Jeremy has collaborated with several other artists, lending his guitar, vocals, and songwriting talents to projects by bands such as Watershed, Porchsleeper, Popular Creeps, and Head Injury. His skills and contributions to the music community have been recognized by Reverend Guitars, which features him as a featured artist. Jeremy’s instrument of choice for live performances is the Pete Anderson Signature Model, a testament to his preference for quality and reliability in his musical endeavors.
Jeremy’s passion for music extends beyond performance and recording. He is co-Editor in Chief of Pencil Storm, a Columbus, Ohio-based blog focused on music, film, sports, and culture. His writings include album reviews, show previews and reviews, memoriam articles, and various other pieces, contributing to the cultural dialogue within the music community.
An interesting and unique aspect of Jeremy’s creative output is “Rock and Roll Restrooms – A Photographic Memoir,” a coffee table book featuring photographs taken in dive bar bathrooms across the USA and Canada during his tours. This project highlights his eye for the eccentric and offers a glimpse into the less glamorous but deeply authentic side of touring life.
Jeremy Porter’s career is a testament to his enduring love for music and his commitment to contributing meaningfully to the rock and roll genre. His work, both as a performer and a writer, continues to resonate with audiences and fellow musicians alike.
